Afghanistan calls on international organizations and relief groups to resume their humanitarian operations
Acting Afghan Prime Minister Mawlawi Abdul Kabir has called on international organizations and aid groups to resume operations in Afghanistan.
And the Afghan news agency (Khama Press) stated, on Sunday, that this came during the meeting of the acting Afghan Prime Minister with Rosa Otunbayeva, Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA).
Abdul Kabir said more than 550 former government military and civilian officials have already returned to Afghanistan.
This comes at a time when at least 13 people, including some prominent Taliban members, were killed and more than 30 others were injured in the latest terrorist attack in Badakhshan, in the north-east of the country, yesterday.
The Afghan official asked the international community to remove the names of senior Taliban members from the "black list", and said that the Taliban administration wants to maintain active and good diplomatic relations with the international community.
He added that international organizations and relief groups could resume operations in Afghanistan, and that the international community could complete unfinished projects in Afghanistan.
And he continued: Given the dire economic situation in Afghanistan amid the drought and poverty the country is witnessing, the Afghan people are in dire need of more international assistance.
