RIsrael Engaged in Quiet Talks with Russia on Iran and Syria Amid Ceasefire
Tel Aviv – Israel has reportedly engaged in behind-the-scenes discussions with Russia concerning developments in Iran and Syria, according to information released Wednesday. The talks are said to have taken place following a ceasefire agreement reached with Tehran.
According to Israel’s public broadcaster KAN, senior Israeli officials have maintained discreet but high-level communications with their Russian counterparts, focusing on finding a diplomatic path forward regarding tensions involving both Iran and Syria.
These talks were reportedly launched approximately one week after the ceasefire was announced, spurred by Moscow’s offer to act as a mediator between Israel and Iran. However, the content of these negotiations has not been disclosed.
In parallel, Tel Aviv is also believed to be coordinating with Washington on a broader strategic plan concerning Iran. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to bring the matter to the table during his upcoming visit to the United States, where he will meet with President Donald Trump.
The goal, according to sources cited in the report, is to develop a new framework for Iran that mirrors the agreement previously brokered with Lebanon.
The current diplomatic activity follows Israel's aerial attacks on Iranian targets on June 13, which were suspended after the U.S. President announced a ceasefire on June 24.
Following the cessation of hostilities, Israeli officials have intensified discussions around expanding normalization efforts, widely recognized as part of the Abraham Accords. Sources suggest that preliminary contacts with Syria may also be part of these broader regional negotiations.
