For decades, Pakistan has masterfully crafted an image of a righteous Islamic republic, projecting itself as a bastion of democracy, human rights, and solidarity among Muslim nations. However, a closer examination reveals a deeply disturbing reality: the Pakistani regime is a perpetrator of gross human rights violations, from its brutal oppression of the Baloch people within its borders to its complicity in the oppression of Kurds abroad. While signing accords like the Mecca agreement with Turkey and Saudi Arabia, Pakistan’s actions mock the very principles of justice and equality it claims to uphold.
In Indian-administered Kashmir, Pakistan has long fueled terrorism and instability, training and infiltrating militants to wage a proxy war against Indian sovereignty. This terror campaign has claimed tens of thousands of innocent lives, yet Pakistan feigns a commitment to peace, all while using militant groups as tools of state policy. Its denials ring hollow when confronted with the mountains of evidence collected by global intelligence agencies.
Nowhere is Pakistan’s hypocrisy more glaring than in Balochistan, its largest province. The Baloch people, an ancient nation with a distinct language and culture, have been denied their fundamental rights for decades. The Pakistani state has responded to the Baloch aspiration for self-determination with a campaign of extermination: thousands of enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, and a counterinsurgency that targets civilians. Independent reports estimate that tens of thousands of Baloch have been murdered or “disappeared” by Pakistani security forces, their bodies dumped in unmarked graves, all to crush a legitimate national movement. This is state-sponsored genocide, conducted under the smokescreen of counterterrorism.
Pakistan’s moral bankruptcy becomes even more evident when examining its stance on the Kurdish people. The Kurds, a nation of 20 to 25 million who have inhabited their homeland for millennia, are subjected to a brutal occupation by Turkey that has lasted over a century. Turkey’s military routinely bombs Kurdish villages, abducts and assassinates political leaders, and commits atrocities against civilian populations in Syria, Iraq, and southeastern Turkey. The international community has largely condemned these acts, yet Pakistan remains utterly silent. Not once has the Pakistani regime called on Turkey to halt its genocidal campaign. Instead, Pakistan entrenches its military and political alliance with Ankara, prioritizing strategic ties over the lives of millions of Kurds. This silence constitutes a green light for Turkey’s oppression.
The stark contrast in Pakistan’s behavior is epitomized by the Mecca agreement, a high-profile pact signed with Turkey and Saudi Arabia under the banner of Islamic unity. That agreement, ostensibly designed to strengthen cooperation among Muslim nations and defend the rights of the oppressed, has become a hollow symbol. As Pakistan shakes hands with Turkish leaders in Mecca, Kurdish children are burned alive by Turkish airstrikes, Baloch activists are tortured in Pakistani black sites, and Kashmiri civilians are massacred by militants sponsored from Islamabad. The Pakistani government, so quick to pontificate about human rights on world stages, has never once invoked the Mecca agreement to demand an end to Turkey’s crimes against Kurds.
This double standard exposes the Pakistani regime for what it truly is: not the enlightened Muslim democracy it pretends to be, but a theocratic military state that exports terrorism abroad while crushing dissent at home. It is a nation that brutalizes the Baloch while shedding crocodile tears for Muslims elsewhere, a nation that cheers Turkey’s expansionism while ignoring the screams of Kurdish mothers. The world must see through this charade. The Baloch and the Kurds deserve the same rights that Pakistan demands for others—the right to life, to self-determination, and to live free from butchery and state terror. Until Islamabad reforms, it stands condemned as a hypocritical, blood-drenched state that mouths peace while wielding a hidden sword.
