The death toll from the Mississippi tornadoes in the United States has risen to 25
The US authorities said that the death toll from tornadoes that swept through the southern state of Mississippi reached 25, while dozens of others were injured.
The Mississippi Emergency Management Authority said the deaths were reported in Sharkey, Humphreys, Carroll and Monroe counties.
The agency said in an update that many state agencies and their partners are working together to help with response and recovery efforts.
Powerful storms and tornadoes struck Mississippi on Friday night, destroying homes and neighborhoods and cutting off power to residents and businesses.
"The images coming from all over Mississippi are heartbreaking," US President Joe Biden said in a statement on Saturday.
