Fake Boris Johnson arrested after his car crashed into a pole
In a strange incident, the Dutch police were surprised by a fake driver's license bearing the name and image of former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, in the possession of a man who was arrested after he drove his car while under the influence of alcohol.
And the fake driver's license, which turned out to be Ukrainian, bore the image of the former British Prime Minister and the correct date of birth, and was issued in 2019, and valid until the end of the year 3000.
Police spokesman Thes Damstra said officers investigated an incident shortly after midnight on Sunday when a car crashed into a pole near the Emma Bridge in the northern city of Groningen.
Although "fake Johnson" left the car, eyewitnesses later told the police that the driver was standing on the bridge, according to the British newspaper "The Guardian".
"The person could not identify himself and refused to take a breathalyzer," Damestra said, a test used to measure the level of alcohol in the body.
The 35-year-old was arrested from the small town of Zuidhorn, west of Groningen, and police searched the car, where they found Boris Johnson's fake licence.
The police could not determine where the forged document was issued, but media reports confirmed that fake driver's licenses, such as those found, can be easily purchased in tourist shops in Ukraine.
