CNN: Increase in sexual assaults in the US military
CNN reported, citing the Pentagon's latest annual report, that the US military saw a 1% increase in sexual assaults last year.
According to the 2022 annual report on sexual assaults in the army, 7,378 reports of sexual assaults against soldiers were registered in 2022, compared to 7,260 complaints recorded in 2021.
Officials confirmed in a statement about the report published Thursday that, with the exception of the ground forces, all other military agencies witnessed an increase in reports from last year, as the Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force witnessed increases of 9%, 3.6%, and 13%, respectively. The ground forces saw a decrease of 9%.
Within the report that was issued, there was data showing a decrease in the number of assault cases, which had evidence supporting the accusations, that were referred by commanders to the military court, and only 37% of cases were referred to a military court in 2022.
