22 migrants were killed when a boat sank today, Monday, off the coast of the Republic of Madagascar, in the southeast of the African continent.

According to the authorities in Madagascar - according to (France 24) news channel - that 23 people have been rescued, and that the search is still underway to find survivors.

The authorities said that the boat, which was carrying 47 people, capsized in the sea off the coast of Madagascar, noting that the boat was on its way to the island of Mayotte, belonging to the French overseas territories.

It is noteworthy that last February, Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for the United Nations, confirmed that support and assistance are being provided to about 7,000 people who were evacuated from their homes in Madagascar due to Hurricane "Freddy" that hit the eastern coast of Madagascar.

The UN spokesman pointed out that food was provided, camp management and emergency communications equipment were provided, and nutrition supplies were replenished in health centers for those affected by the cyclone, pointing out that work is underway on assessments to determine the full extent of the damage and the required response from Madagascar.

The authorities in Madagascar announced the death of 4 people, as a result of Hurricane Freddy, which is hitting the country at the current stage.

This came after the hurricane hit the east coast, accompanied by strong winds that have subsided somewhat, according to the National Office of Risk and Disaster Management.

And the National Office announced that "4 people were killed, and 16,660 others were affected," in a preliminary toll.

About 3,300 homes were flooded, and almost as many were damaged. More than 11,000 people have been displaced, most of whom have found refuge in emergency housing.
