China called on the United States to lift sanctions on Iran and stop making threats against Tehran. This is in order to revive the stalled negotiations on the 2015 nuclear deal.
"The new resolution approved by the International Atomic Energy Agency to pressure Iran to cooperate will result in nothing but an escalation of the conflict and undermining confidence, and will cast a shadow on the negotiations," said Chinese Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Geng Shuang - in a session of the Security Council -.
"All parties should consider the long-term and comprehensive situation and avoid any move that could lead to escalation of the situation and undermine the negotiation process," Ging added.
He pointed out that "the US decision in 2018 to withdraw from the agreement, under which Iran had agreed to halt its nuclear program in return for the easing of economic sanctions, led to the current impasse."
